Lake Constance Back Packing Trip

Location:  Olympic National Forest, trailhead/parking is approximately 10 miles west of Quilcene, WA.

Cost: $115 ($ 20 registration fee counts toward in total).

REGISTER BY: 04 August 2024 - 10 PM

CONSIDERATIONS & SAFETY STOPS:

This hike requires a good level of overall cardio fitness.  First day, 5 mile in-hike (below average difficulty) and a 2.5 mile ascent covering approximately 3300 feet on steep switchback trails (moderate difficulty).  You must be able to carry all your own gear, plus food items and have room for group camping gear in your pack.

Second day, 2-3 mile hike over snow/rock field and 100-200 ft ascent on scree (loose rock) field to lookout point.

Hiking portion of the trip is not technical (does not require ropes, spikes, poles, special training, ect).

Camping in open air - no tents with lower temps at night (high 40s-50s).  Critical to have warm sleeping bag & camping mattress.

Adult leadership accompanying students on 3-1 ratio.

SAFETY STOPS:  Leadership will cancel (or shorten - dynamic evaluation) the hike if higher than 20% chance of rain, thunderstorms, high winds, or fire danger/closure by national parks.  Every effort will be made to refund balances in the event of a cancellation.

PAYOFF:

Pristine mountain lake (swimming, camping, fishing-no license required).  If weather is clear, one can see a large part of Puget Sound from viewpoint.

 

REQUIRED:

-Completed Activity Release Form

-You have to pass a gear check 3-day prior to the hike and correct any discrepancies prior to departure.

 

*** REQUIRED GEAR ***

-Sturdy/Large backpack (does not have to have frame) - You must be able to carry all your own gear, plus food items and have room for group camping gear in/on your pack.

-Sleeping bag (at least 0 degrees rated)

-Camping Matt

-Bike helmet for 2nd day hike.

-Knife/Leatherman

-Water bottle

-Hiking Gators (not required, but highly recommended).

 

-CLOTHES

-hiking shoes/boots (Big 5 routinely has some available for $20)

-Socks/Underwear (at least 3 pairs)

-Toiletries (pack light - toothbrush/paste, floss, soap)

-Light layers for hiking (shorts/t-shirt)

-Warmer clothes for evening - temps at altitude routinely in low 50’s/high 40’s)

*Long johns/sweat pants (night time)

*Sweatshirt/Fleece

*Watch cap/or compact supplementary blanket

-Head Lamp/Flashlight

9 - 12 PM - Hike to lookout/view point

2 PM - Return to Camp (Lunch/Swim/Fish/Dinner)

 

25 AUG 2024

 

8 AM - Breakfast/Break-Camp

9 - 12 PM - Return to Van - commence trip home

2 PM - Lunch

5 PM - Return to Coastline Christian Fellowship for pickup
